British Actress Samantha E Hunt to Attend the World Premiere of HEDDA GABLER in Oslo,
as part of the International Ibsen Festival
Samantha, who played the role of the ingénue Thea Elvsted in Matthew John’s adaptation of the iconic play, will be present, along with other cast members, to celebrate the World Premiere of the film during the International Ibsen Festival, Sept 8th-24th, in partnership with the Henrik Ibsen Museum and the Festival itself.

Bristol, England – Stunt-woman turned successful actor, Samantha E Hunt, plays one of the leads in a new film adaptation based on Henrik Ibsen’s classic play Hedda Gabler. Prior to worldwide release the film will be premiered in Oslo, Norway on September 8th 2016 at the Vika Cinema, 6pm. The red carpet event will be sponsored by the Henrik Ibsen Festival running from September 8th through to September 24th 2016 and in partnership with the Henrik Ibsen Museum, part of the Norske Folke Museum.
Costumes designed for the film will be unveiled and placed on display in a special exhibition at the Henrik Ibsen Museum which will be open to the public from the 9th September. The costume designer, director and leading members of the cast including Samantha, will give a press conference and will be available for personal interviews on the same day. As with the premiere, the Costume Exhibition is part of the 16 day official Festival programme, but will remain on permanent display in the Museum as a gift from Matthew John Productions.
Samantha E Hunt, 33, from Bristol, plays Thea Elvsted, love rival of Hedda Gabler. Thea, the epitome of feminine beauty, is an inspiration to Lovborg: her purity of heart encourages him, as do her other great attributes of honesty and compassion. As a consequence, she becomes subjected to Hedda’s malicious hatred and overt resentment.
This will not be the first time Samantha and other cast have graced a red carpet in honour of Hedda. The film was invited to screen a film industry preview at the Cannes Film Festival and was celebrated at two prestigious VIP events in the Riviera resort town.
Samantha delights in sharing insights into her role as the principled yet innocent Thea: “I chose to play the part of Thea Elvsted as it was her character traits that most appealed to me personally. Thea’s story is a journey depicting strength, courage and inspiring intelligence: freely and boldly standing up for her beliefs, and not letting Victorian society dictate how she should live, unlike Hedda.”

Crucially for fans, critics and Ibsen enthusiasts, this is the first time the play has been adapted for cinema using a full suite of heritage locations, exterior scenes and horses and carriages as well as introducing to audiences for the first time, characters only ever referred to in the play.
This version is opulent and full of colour, with a young cast adding a slightly modern twist. Such lavish treatment showcasing Ibsen’s masterpiece has been welcomed by the Royal Palace and Ibsen societies for its positive effect celebrating Norwegian culture. Hedda Gabler is perhaps the playwright’s best known play, named after its intriguing and complex female protagonist. The film was previewed at the Cannes Film Festival and is being distributed worldwide by an association between Vision Films and Sony Entertainment.
